AboutAlex graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2019 with a first class degree in Textile Design. Since graduating and receiving the Embroiderer's Guild Graduate award he has exhibited at the Knitting and Stitching Show and his work has been showcased at the Manchester Art Gallery, Nottingham Castle, and many independent shops and museums.
Alex focuses on zero waste and slow textile design with both sustainability and accessibility at its heart. Utilising both traditional and contemporary techniques with a strong interest in the history of place, heritage craft and working with nature - not against it. “It started with hand embroidery, progressed to natural dyes then hand spinning and then eventually growing my own flax and hand processing my own wild nettles. I’m especially interested in pre-industrial textiles and what we can learn from the way people used to value them in the past.” His work with maps is an extension of his interest in the history of the land we live on. So much can be learned from studying a map, as the layers of the past start to reveal themselves era by era. This can be seen through archeological features, ancient woodland or place names. Maps are personal and important to the artist and they intend to explore this further in future work. WholesaleFor wholesale enquiries please email alexvincenttextiles@gmail.com
