SpinExpo 2019
Out of the various trends provided by Spinexpo, this piece on was the 'Modern Vintage' which focused on reusing of fabric and sustainability with a bright colour palette. The trend really relates to my main practice with the sustainability focus and inspired phase two of my final year with the use of upcycled shirts and hand embroidery.
My shirt design draws inspiration from the imperfect, clashing styles of the 1980’s, visible mending as well as traditional embroidery techniques. It is intended to be a comporary bespoke menswear pieces for the non conforming yet environmentally conscious young modern man. Sustainability is vital to my design practice and the title, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow makes reference to the this. The materials of yesterday, destined for landfill to be transformed into exciting hand crafted fashions which will then be taken into the world of tomorrow. Other sustainability elements include natural dyeing as well as responsibly sourced linen and repurposed sari silk ribbon.
